People's Day Care will be closing 2 hours early in solidarity with the programs that have had to permanently close due to Indiana's choice to NOT fund early care and learning. We will rally with the children and parents at pick-up and parents will do a short video answer to the question, "what would you have done today if People's Day Care was closed?".

Day Without Child Care is a national movement where providers, parents, and communities come together to highlight the essential role of child care in our economy and daily lives.
Across the country, child care providers are taking action to ensure their voices are heard and to advocate for a system that truly supports families and the workforce.
Why This Matters
Child care providers are currently navigating:
• Increased scrutiny and harmful public narratives
• Rising operational costs
• Workforce shortages
• Low compensation despite delivering high-quality care
Despite this, providers continue to show up every day — supporting children, families, and the broader economy.

In Maine, Day Without Child Care will be a community-powered gathering where parents and providers come together to make the child care crisis visible—and take action. This family-friendly event will center storytelling, connection, and real-time organizing, helping participants understand what’s at stake and how to get involved. We’re using this moment to recruit and grow a statewide network, build momentum toward the Child Care Changemakers Convention, and move people into sustained advocacy for long-term child care solutions.
