Child care providers across North Carolina are coming together on May 1 to take a stand. This year, we are merging the Day Without Childcare with the May Day Strong movement to unite with hundreds of thousands of working people across the country. We will say no to business as usual; no school, no work, no shopping.
Right now, the early education system is under real strain:
CCDF funds have been frozen in five states.
Reimbursement rates have not increased, despite rising costs.
Programs are operating on razor-thin margins.
Providers are asked to do more with less — without the support or respect we deserve.
Without real investment, more programs will close. More educators will leave the field. More families will lose care.
We need to send a clear and urgent message: Child care is essential infrastructure. North Carolina must invest now.

Day Without Child Care, “Imagine If We Weren’t Here,” is a national effort that providers across Nebraska have chosen to participate in together. Instead of closing their doors, providers are using this day to make their work visible and to highlight the essential role child care plays in supporting families, the workforce, and Nebraska’s economy.
This event serves as the statewide anchor, based in Lincoln, connecting providers, families, community members, and leaders across Nebraska.
Throughout the day, child care providers across the state will:
Share their daily work and learning environments
Invite senators, candidates, council members, and community leaders into their programs
Connect with families and communities to highlight the importance of child care
Participate in a coordinated, statewide effort to make child care visible
While this anchor is located in Lincoln, participation is happening in communities across Nebraska, creating a unified message of impact.
